Objective, Goals and Method:
The main objective of the project, carried out in cooperation between the Pozitif-iz Association and İzmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital, was to increase the level of awareness among people living with HIV regarding herpes zoster (shingles) infection and the shingles vaccine; to help them understand their risk of infection; and to improve their knowledge that the infection is preventable. Supporting their access to accurate, up-to-date and guiding information about access to the vaccine was also among the project’s primary goals.
Within the scope of the project, it was also aimed to encourage healthcare providers to inform people living with HIV about the shingles vaccine and to increase their sensitivity on this issue.
The project was designed in four stages:
Survey study
Online Information Seminar
Collection of Vaccine Requests
Article: “Shingles Vaccine in People Living with HIV and Its Importance”
Outputs:
The survey was live between 10 September and 8 November 2025. A total of 233 people living with HIV participated in the study.
The survey results were selected among the top 10 projects within the scope of the “Prof. Dr. Volkan Korten Project Competition” organized by the Turkish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (KLİMİK). The results were shared as an oral presentation at the KLİMİK Anatolian HIV Symposium, held in Adana on 26–28 October 2025, with more than 40 participants.
The survey outputs were also presented as an oral presentation at the 9th National HIV/AIDS Congress, held in Antalya between 4–7 December 2025, with nearly 450 participants.
The “HIV and Shingles Seminar” was held online on Wednesday, 8 October 2025 between 20:30 and 21:30, with presentations by three experts. A total of 50 people living with HIV attended the seminar.
The content titled “Shingles Guide: Prevention, Symptoms and Treatment” was prepared and published on the Pozitif-iz Association’s website and social media accounts, reaching wide audiences.

Online participation (540) + Social media reach (4,013) = 4,553 people directly reached. Through the project and its presentations, an average of more than 4,500 people were directly reached. Taking social media views into account, the total visibility exceeded approximately 15,800.
